Croft - Race 2 Report - 24/6/12

Gordon Shedden leads Matt Neal to a fantastic 1-2 victory for Honda Yuasa Racing in the 2nd race at Croft and regains his lead in the championship. Rob Austin takes the final podium place after a thrilling drive.

The second race of the day from Croft Circuit started with Matt Neal leading the championship by 1 point over team-mate Gordon Shedden thanks to Neal's victory in the first race.

As the lights went out, Rob Collard made another of his trademark fast starts, passing the Honda Yuasa Racing Team Civic of pole-sitter Matt Neal however before the first lap was completed Neal fought back and both he and team-mate Gordon Shedden passed Collard's eBay Motors BMW 320si to take 1st and 2nd place respectively. Andrew Jordan in the Pirtek Racing Honda Civic took 3rd place from Rob Collard on lap 2 and soon Collard was under pressure from Rob Austin in the Audi A4. On lap 3 Gordon Shedden passed Matt Neal to take the lead.

Behind the leaders, a thrilling battle was taking place between Rob Collard and Rob Austin for 4th with Austin taking the position from Collard on lap 7. Austin now had his sights firmly set on the Pirtek Racing Honda Civic of Andrew Jordan and a place on the podium. After an exciting battle, Austin passed Jordan on lap 13 to take 3rd place. Jordan then came under intense pressure from Rob Collard who in turn was being chased by team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole.

The race ended with a 6th win of the season for Gordon Shedden ahead of team-mate Matt Neal and a fantastic 1-2 result for Honda Yuasa Racing. Rob Austin finished an excellent 3rd - his first BTCC podium since Snetterton last year and a great result for the Rob Austin Racing team. Andrew Jordan finished 4th with Rob Collard 5th and Tom Onslow-Cole 6th.

The reverse grid for the final race of the day will put the eBay Motors BMW 320si of Nick Foster on pole alongside the MG KX Momentum Racing MG6 of Andy Neate. Row 2 will be taken by the Dynojet Racing Toyota Avensis of Frank Wrathall and Jason Plato in the other MG6 with row 3 being taken by Tom Onslow-Cole and Rob Collard.

Gordon Shedden now leads the championship by 2 points over team-mate Matt Neal going into the last race of the day from Croft Circuit.
