Following his fantastic victory in the 3rd race at Snetterton last week, Inverness based racer Dave Newsham will be looking to continue his success when the BTCC makes its annual visit to the popular circuit near Dunfermline in Scotland. Newsham's weekend at Snetterton did not go entirely to plan. Having finished 4th in the first race, his Team ES Racing.com Vauxhall Vectra was excluded from the result after failing to meet the minimum weight requirement. Starting from the back of the grid for race 2, he made his way up to finish 8th which, thanks to the reverse grid system, put him on the front row of the grid for race 3 and set him up for his maiden BTCC victory.

Fellow Scot Gordon Shedden had an even more eventful weekend at Snetterton. During the first free practice session, his Honda Yuasa Racing Team Civic caught fire when a fuel coupling failed causing flames to engulf the front of the car. Shedden was unharmed but his Honda Civic had suffered major damage. Despite the valiant efforts of his garage crew in getting the car out for the qualifying session, there were still problems and Shedden couldn't set a qualifying lap time and would have to start race 1 from the back of the grid.

By the start of the 1st race, Shedden's car was running properly again although still carrying scorch marks from the previous day and Shedden finished in 8th. Following a fantastic 2nd place in race 2, Shedden finished the 3rd race in 3rd place and provisionally led the championship standings, however he was later excluded from the race 3 results for exceeding turbo boost limits. As a result, team-mate Matt Neal now leads the championship from Shedden by 8 points with Jason Plato just 2 points behind in 3rd.

For BTCC fans, the Knockhill circuit is always a popular venue with its mixture of dips, crests, blind brows and off-camber surface which, together with notoriously unpredictable weather, makes it a real challenge for the drivers and a fantastic spectacle for the viewing public!
