A View From The Driver's Seat: Looking forward to this weekend in Scotland

By Frank Wrathall / MJP Media | 21 August 2012

Following his success at Snetterton last time out, Dynojet driver Frank Wrathall looks forward to the annual trip to Scotland and hopes to create some more Toyota history at Knockhill.

Fresh from my success at Snetterton where I claimed the best results of my 2012 BTCC season so far, me and the Dynojet Racing team, together with the Toyota Avensis head north of the border this weekend to Knockhill near Edinburgh.

My maiden BTCC pole position and second place race finish last time out have buoyed me and the team's confidence for Knockhill, the track where I claimed my first podium results last year. But I am still cautious: We have not been able to test at Knockhill this year so with the new car it's a bit of an unknown. We had a useful test at Rockingham last Friday and we learned one or two important things, I think, but Knockhill is such a different track.

The whole nature of the circuit, the undulations, the curves and the kerbs, mean that it is hard to predict how well my Toyota will go. I don't really know what to expect and won't until we have Saturday's practice sessions under our belts. The Dynojet Avensis however was strong at Snetterton and we have made progress since then so I am hopeful of some good results.

Last year at Knockhill we enjoyed a ground-breaking weekend, qualifying third on the grid and claiming two third-place race finishes announcing the Dynojet team's intention to become a podium regular.

Knockhill this weekend celebrates 20 years on the BTCC calendar and many of Scotland's top drivers will be on parade. Toyota's chapter in the Knockhill story concerns the 1993 season when Julian Bailey and his Carina scored the last BTCC win by any Toyota driver. I am obviously hoping to emulate his success this time out and I will be doing everything to bring success to the team as they support me so fantastically. I'll let you know how I got on next week.
