A View From The Driver's Seat: We're singing in the rain!

By Frank Wrathall / MJP Media | 25 August 2012

Alton Towers comes to Scotland - that's what Dynojet driver Frank Wrathall thought following the qualifying session for tomorrow's 1st race at Knockhill.

Well that was a qualifying session I won't forget. It was raining lightly at the start, slackened off a bit in the middle when we had the first red flag for Rob Holland crashing the Honda and then when we restarted it was like driving down the log flume at Alton Towers!! Wet or what?

The rain started about an hour before our qualifying session and it was very heavy but with half an hour to go it slackened off quite a lot so we started on a full wet set up with the hope of a dry line developing. I have to mention the team here because the car was immense! I actually enjoyed the early conditions but we were all looking forward to seeing what happened if the track dried out.

As it happens, after the red flag it rained just as hard as it did at Thruxton but the challenge here was so different. Unlike Thruxton which is flat, we had hills to contend with and with heavy rain and hills you get waterfalls, just after turn one!

The car, however, got better and better - the brakes were fantastic, the balance was perfect and we had good grip too. Could we have done better? Well actually I think we probably could. We ended up with not quite having the right tyres on at the right time. Given that, it was a great session and I can't wait for tomorrow - whatever the weather may bring.

All my love
