By MJP Media | 14 August 2013

Scotland prepares for action as the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to the Knockhill circuit in Dunfermline on August 24th and 25th for the 7th round of the 2013 season.

For BTCC fans, the Knockhill circuit is always a popular venue with its mixture of dips, crests, blind brows and off-camber surface which, together with notoriously unpredictable weather, makes it a real challenge for the drivers and a fantastic spectacle for the viewing public!

Scottish interest this year will be greater than ever with local hero Gordon Shedden defending the BTCC Drivers' Championship he won in 2012. The Scot from Dalgety Bay is currently lying 3rd in the 2013 standings with his Honda Yuasa Racing team-mate Matt Neal just 22 points ahead at the top of the table and Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan splitting the pair, 9 points behind Neal.

Although there are currently three Honda Civic drivers leading the championship, Colin Turkington in the eBay Motors BMW 125i M Sport is still in contention in 4th place along with Jason Plato in 5th for MG KX Momentum Racing. Turkington started the year slowly but has been scoring points regularly and could soon be challenging the leaders. Plato lost 2 places in the standings last time out at Snetterton as a result of various incidents and will be keen to re-establish his championship campaign at Knockhill.

Further Scottish interest lies with Inverness-based racer Dave Newsham who won the 3rd race from Knockhill in 2012. The Speedworks Motorsport driver didn't have a particularly good weekend at Snetterton with a combination of mechanical issues and 'racing incidents' conspiring against him so needs another good performance at his home circuit this year. Kieran Gallagher will also be flying the flag for Scotland at the wheel of the Team HARD. Vauxhall Insignia previously driven by Jack Goff.
