The dust had hardy settled from the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship meeting at Snetterton last weekend when the Norfolk circuit once again roared with the sound BTCC action on Tuesday for an official tyre test day. With free public access, 19 drivers took to the track from teams such as eBay Motors, Chrome Edition Restart Racing, Honda Yuasa Racing, Airwaves Racing, Wix Racing, Laser Tools Racing and AmD Tuning.com.

In the morning session it was the Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis of Tom Ingram that topped the time sheet with a lap time of 1:57.634 with Colin Turkington 2nd fastest with 1:57.943 in his eBay Motors BMW 125i M Sport. Ingram and Turkington were the only drivers to break the 1:58 barrier in this session. Mat Jackson was 3rd fastest in his Airwaves Racing Ford Focus ST with Gordon Shedden 4th in his Honda Yuasa Racing Civic Tourer.

In the afternoon session it was the 2009 BTCC Drivers' Championship winner Colin Turkington who was quickest, beating his earlier session time by 9/10ths of a second with a 1:57.048. Second fastest was Aiden Moffat in the Laser Tools Racing Chevrolet Cruze Saloon with a 1:57:349 lap time.

Turkington and Moffat were the only drivers in the afternoon session to better Tom Ingram's lap time from the morning session and the only drivers to exceed an average of 91mph around the Snetterton '300' circuit. Alain Menu was 3rd fastest in the afternoon session in his Chrome Edition Restart Racing Volkswagen CC with Tom Ingram 4th.

The test was organised by the BTCC's official tyre supplier Dunlop as it conducted comparisons between its 2014 tyres and the 2015 tyres, which will come from its Germany factory for the first time next season.

With the ability for teams to run different weight and fuel levels it is difficult to read too much into the lap times, however more than 1,000 laps were completed in a quest to find extra performance ahead of the final four meetings of the 2014 season.
