Thruxton Preview - WIN TICKETS!

By MJP Media | 24 April 2014

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to the super-fast Thruxton circuit in Hampshire on May 3rd and 4th for the 3rd meeting of the 2014 season.

A great venue for spectators thanks to its vast viewing areas, Thruxton is probably the most fearsome circuit on the BTCC calendar with an average lap speed well in excess of 100mhp and top speeds of over 140mph. Its layout is effectively a never-ending, occasionally tightening right-hand loop split by two chicanes and boasts extraordinarily high speeds. In fact, it is such a fast circuit that Dunlop brings a one-off tyre just for this event to help withstand the extra cornering loads.

Last time out at Donington Park, the victory honours were shared by 3 different drivers, once again demonstrating the close racing we have come to expect from Britain's premier motorsport series. The first two races were dominated by the MG KX Clubcard Fuel Save MG6s with former BTCC champion Jason Plato leading his team to a 1-2 victory in race 1 and team-mate Sam Tordoff leading a 1-2 victory in race 2. The third race was won by Honda Yuasa Racing's Gordon Shedden following a controversial move on Colin Turkington in the eBay Motors BMW 125i M Sport.

Heading to Thruxton, the championship standings could hardly be any closer with defending BTCC champion Andrew Jordan and Jason Plato at the top of the table, both on 87 points with Jordan leading with 2 wins to Plato's 1. Gordon Shedden is just one point behind on 86 with Colin Turkington 4th on 84 and Matt Neal 5th on 79.

Last year, Honda Yuasa Racing won all three races from Thruxton with Matt Neal taking victory in the first two and team-mate Gordon Shedden taking victory in the third with their Honda Civics. For 2014, the team have switched to the distinctive Civic Tourer which has already proved itself on the track. If the duo can replicate their 2013 Thruxton performance this year, either of them could find themselves at the top of the championship table.
