With the weather conditions continually improving, the cars took to the Snetterton '300' circuit for the qualifying session for the first race tomorrow and with pole position, the chance to earn the first championship point of the meeting.

There was drama before a wheel had even turned with the announcement that Andrew Jordan had not been cleared by the circuit doctors to take part in the qualifying session. The Pirtek Racing driver suffered mild concussion during a crash in the first free practice session this morning and will now have to start the first race tomorrow from the back of the grid, assuming he is passed fit to race.

In the early laps of the session it was Rob Austin who was quickest in his Exocet Racing Audi A4 however it was not long before Jason Plato put in a blistering lap in his MG KX Clubcard Fuel Save MG6 which nobody else could match. He ended the session over 0.4 seconds ahead of his nearest rival, Colin Turkington in the eBay Motors BMW 125i M Sport.

Jason Plato's team-mate Sam Tordoff qualified 3rd with Matt Neal 4th in his Honda Yuasa Racing Civic Tourer, Alain Menu 5th in his Chrome Edition Restart Racing Volkswagen CC and Tom Ingram 6th in his Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis. Aron Smith, Adam Morgan, Mat Jackson and Jack Goff completed the top 10.

With pole position under his belt, Jason Plato is in the perfect place to kick-start his 2014 championship campaign but with current championship leader Colin Turkington also starting on the front row of the grid, it is sure to be a thrilling battle. Assuming he is cleared to race, it will also be interesting to see how Andrew Jordan makes his way up the order.

The scene is now set for a thrilling start to the second half of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and with four former BTCC champions currently at the top of the standings, we can be certain of some thrilling action from Britain's premier motorsport series.
