The final round of the 2014 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship took place in dark and wet conditions at Kent's Brands Hatch circuit. In a race that was largely remarkable only for the horrendous conditions and a crash by Martin Depper that required a short safety car period, there was a tremendous drive from pole-sitter Jack Clarke in the Crabbie's Racing Ford Focus ST who led for much of the race before being caught and passed by the vastly more experienced Gordon Shedden in his Honda Yuasa Racing Honda Civic Tourer.

Despite this setback, Clarke drove a brilliant race to finish second behind the flying Scotsman to hold off the hard charging Mat Jackson in the final outing for the Airwaves Racing Ford Focus ST. Airwaves have now ended their 6 year title sponsorship of the Motorbase BTCC team and the team will appear in new livery for 2015.

After the race it was time for the main presentations for the 2014 championship season and a huge crowd braved the heavy rain to cheer on their heroes. Headlining the presentations was the 2014 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Champion Colin Turkington who bounded on to the podium and was greeted by a huge roar from the massed crowds who obviously thought him the worthy champion.

The next presentation was for the Independent Teams Trophy which this year was won by eBay Motors with Colin Turkington, Rob Collard and Nick Foster. Run by Dick Bennetts, this is the Surrey based team's tenth title and they will party late tonight once they have packed up.

The Jack Sears trophy, which is awarded to the driver who makes up the most places (overtakes) during the season, was won by the ever popular Dave Newsham with his AMDTuning.com Ford Focus ST. Dave told us "We have had an up and down season in a car that was essentially fast". Team boss Shaun Hollamby was equally delighted, saying "This season we have had our highest ever race finish and finished off with the prestigious Jack Sears Trophy. A bit of a rollercoaster, but we are immensely happy".

The 2015 BTCC season will get underway at Brands Hatch at the beginning of April, however we will have all of the team and driver news as it happens over the winter, together with special BTCC reports from the Autosport International Show at Birmingham's NEC. Keep your eyes peeled this week for a review of Colin Turkington's championship winning season.
