The Inside Track with Power Maxed Racing: The end of the 2015 BTCC season and silverware for Josh Cook

By Power Maxed Racing / MJP Media | 26 October 2015

As the 2015 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship drew to a close, Power Maxed Racing completed their first season in Britain's premier motor sport series with Josh Cook collecting the Jack Sears Trophy.

With Josh Cook taking his maiden BTCC podium in the second race at Rockingham, hopes were high in the Power Maxed Racing team for the final two meeting of the year at Silverstone and Brands Hatch. Dave Newsham got the Silverstone weekend off to a good start, qualifying his Chevrolet Cruze in 5th place and finishing the first race just outside the podium positions in 4th.

Josh and Dave started the second race in the middle of the field but with championship contenders Jason Plato and Colin Turkington just in front of them they were in good company. Dave retired from the race after 10 laps with engine issues while Josh finished 14th and unable to benefit from the reverse grid draw. The Power Maxed Racing Team tried to replace the engine in Dave's car for the final race of the day however they were beaten by the clock, meaning Dave had to sit out the remainder of the weekend.

The final meeting of the year at Brands Hatch provided mixed results for the team. With Josh qualifying in the top 10 and Dave one row behind, the first race of the day resulted in a 9th place finish for Josh whilst Dave finished one lap down following and incident earlier in the race.

Posting the 4th fastest lap time in race one, Dave started race two on the second row of the grid and held his position to finish a very creditable 4th. The reverse grid draw for the final race of the year resulted in Dave again starting 4th on the grid however an early retirement brought his 2015 BTCC season to a premature end.

Despite Dave's woes, there was a joyous mood in the Power Maxed Racing garage as Josh Cook was awarded the 2015 Jack Sears Trophy for the highest scoring BTCC rookie. With an astounding 22 wins and 3 second places in the Jack Sears class from the 30 races during the 2015 season Josh was a convincing winner, beating his nearest rival by an incredible 196 points.

Elsewhere in the BTCC, Power Maxed Racing finished 8th in the 19-strong HiQ Teams' Championship and 3rd in the 15-strong Independents' Team Trophy - a good result for the team's first year in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
