New standings leader Ash Sutton fired out an early warning to his title rivals by topping the opening Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship Free Practice session at Silverstone. Sutton hit the top of the standings with a trio of top five finishes at Thruxton last weekend, whilst reigning champ Colin Turkington suffered with an on-track issue, and now the Laser Tools Racing driver was looking to stay on top despite carrying maximum success ballast onboard his Infiniti Q50.

Free Practice 2 was dominated by Halfords Yuasa Racing as Dan Cammish led home team-mate Matt Neal. The Honda duo had a strong weekend at Thruxton last time out and the Civic Type Rs also seem to be on song around the 1.64-mile Silverstone National circuit.

Free practice 1 pace-setter Ash Sutton was third, with Toyota'sTom Ingram again immediately behind him amid the coldest temperatures of the campaign so far. Team BMW struggled again and had to settle for eighth and tenth respectively with Tom Oliphant edging out team-mate Colin Turkington.

In qualifying Halfords Yuasa Racing's Dan Cammish delivered back-to-back pole positions in the Honda as he followed up last weekend's Thruxton flyer with a record-breaking tour of the Silverstone National circuit. The session at the Home of British Motor Racing was interrupted by a red flag and often swung one way and then the other, but Cammish eventually proved to be the class of the field with the most commanding qualifying display of the season so far.

Title leader Ash Sutton was only able to finish 7th, just behind the Honda veteran Matt Neal who was 6th. Adam Morgan, Tom Chilton and Jake Hill rounded out the top 10.
