Stars of the British Touring Car Championship turned out at the famous Daytona circuit today to test their abilities against the clock with a chance to appear on the circuit's 'fastest lap' leader board alongside names like Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton. Ok, it wasn't the Daytona circuit in the USA, but was instead the phenomenal Daytona kart track in Milton Keynes. The BTCC stars were nearby ahead of the penultimate meeting of the 2012 season at Silverstone this weekend.

Daytona kart tracks are renowned as being some of the finest in Britain and the British Touring Car Championship drivers were there to test out the new and very quick twin-engined Pro karts. Among the BTCC stars who took part this evening were Mirror columnist Frank Wrathall, Scotland's Dave Newsham, film star Rob Austin, fans favourite Andrew Jordan and multiple race winner in 2012 Rob Collard.

As has been the case so often this summer, the going was tough because of the weather. The cool and incredibly wet conditions didn't allow the boys to threaten the best lap times recorded so far (in the dry and warm!) but a fantastic time was had by all. There were two competitions on the night, the first being a fastest lap by the BTCC professionals on their own which was won by eBay Motors driver Rob Collard, followed by team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole.

Next was a Pro-Am competition with the BTCC stars and the media invited into a 'full on' race. Let's just say that we weren't quite as quick as the stars of the BTCC but it was great fun none the less. In this race, the BTCC champion was Frank Wrathall of Dynojet Toyota followed by Rob Austin with Adam Morgan 3rd.

The best part about the event was the knowledge that the whole kart experience is available to the public at Daytona tracks throughout the UK.
