Following the disappointment of his exclusion from the last race at Snetterton for exceeding turbo boost limits, not to mention his car catching fire the day before, Gordon Shedden was keen to start the weekend well and did just that by topping the time sheet in the first free practice session at his home circuit. His Honda Yuasa Racing Team Civic was just over 0.2 seconds faster around the 1.27 mile circuit than eBay Motors drivers Tom Onslow-Cole and Rob Collard in their BMW 320si E90s.

Paul O'Neill once again joined the Speedwords Motorsport team to drive the Toyota Avensis usually driven by Tony Hughes and did a fantastic job to post the 4th fastest time of the session ahead of the Pirtek Racing Honda Civic of Andrew Jordan in 5th, and former BTCC champion Jason Plato in the MG KX Momentum Racing MG6 in 6th. The lap times were exceedingly close with only 0.5 seconds covering the top 5 cars and less than 1 second covering the top 12.

In the early stages of the 2nd free practice session it was Gordon Shedden who once again led the way with Inverness-based Dave Newsham 2nd in the Team ES Racing.com Vauxhall Vectra and Mat Jackson 3rd in the Redstone Racing Ford Focus. With just over 10 minutes of the session remaining, Rob Collard went quickest ahead of Gordon Shedden with Andrew Jordan 3rd and Adam Morgan 4th.

As the clock ticked down, Rob Collard and Gordon Shedden remained at the top of the time sheet as first Nick Foster then Dave Newsham went 3rd fastest. Andrew Jordan ended the session 4th fastest ahead of Nick Foster and Adam Morgan. As in the first practice session, the lap times were incredibly close with less than 1 second covering the top 14 cars.
