Touring car star shines at Scottish awards night

By MJP Media | 9 December 2013

Dunlop MSA British Touring Car driver Aiden Moffat had a very successful evening at the Scottish Motor Racing Club annual awards dinner at the weekend, claiming 6 trophies and meeting two legends in the process.

In a star studded evening hosted by the SMRC, Aiden was pleased to be a guest in such exalted company and was then blown away with no fewer than 6 awards. The first of these was the "Young Driver of the Year" in recognition of his outstanding performances in a season where for the most part he was only 16 years of age. Now 17, he is looking forward to his first full season in Britain's premier motor racing series, the British Touring Car Championship, next season in his newly acquired Chevrolet Cruze.

This was quickly followed by the "Driver of the Year" award which was reward for his great performances in the Celtic Speed Minis, the Fiesta Championship and latterly in the British Touring Car Championship. The Sheila Whyte Trophy was special for Aiden as it is awarded to the driver who has most impressed the judges with their performances, attitude and dedication over the season.

Perhaps the most famous award Aiden received on the night was the Ecurie Ecosse "Hubcap" Trophy. This trophy has seen some fantastic recipients in the past including the legendary Jim Clark who received the award in 1963.

To cap it all off, on the way to the dinner the youngster shared a lift with F1 ace Paul Di Resta and on the way home was treated to the company of the one and only Dario Franchitti. When we caught up with Aiden on Sunday after a short night's sleep he still had a big grin on his face. "It was amazing, not just the trophies but also the best wishes of my peers in Scottish motor racing. To cap it all off by meeting Paul and Dario, well, you just can't beat a night like that!"
