Motorbase support Alex Dowsett and the Little Bleeders charity

Motorbase Performance lent their support to Commonwealth, European and major 'Time Trial' champion Alex Dowsett at the recent BTCC finals at Brands Hatch in his bid to raise awareness of haemophilia.

Alex Dowsett is one of the fastest men ever in professional road racing (beating Sir Bradley Wiggins on many occasions) and recently smashed the British 10 mile record by doing 10 miles in 17 minutes and 20 seconds! That is an average of 34.61 miles per hour. Alex is probably the only athlete competing at the top of the world stage with haemophilia and his story is inspirational.

His career to date has included Commonwealth, European and major 'Time Trial' titles, despite suffering with severe haemophilia. Alex has gone on to achieve great success with the UCI World Tour Team Movistar despite at the age of 18 months being diagnosed after a fall and cutting the inside of his mouth. The bleeding did not stop and he was declared as a severe haemophiliac. Alex uses his knowledge of the condition and his success in his chosen sport to offer support and guidance to children with haemophilia and their families.

Alex has been proud to support the Little Bleeders charity - www.littlebleeders.com - and told us "It is vital that more people are aware of the difficulties and dangers that haemophilia suffers can face. However, it is also important that those with it know that they can do whatever they want in life, including being an international professional sportsman or woman. The condition is not a bar to maximising your life and potential, just part of it."

Clearly Alex is passionate about helping haemophilia sufferers and already speaks at schools and conferences. The opportunity for this 2 wheel speed king to get publicity for his supported charity by teaming up with the Motorbase squad was too good to miss. Team boss David Bartrum said "We are very conscious of the appeal of the BTCC and our ability to promote good causes. To think that Alex speeds down mountain passes at 60 mph without a harness or roll cage is incredible and his courage to do this despite his haemophilia really humbled us. There is a great similarity between the technology used in car and bike racing and so it was natural for us to be involved. Alex is a true hero, and his Little Bleeders charity is a fantastic cause. We are proud to be associated with him and them."
