A View From The Driver's Seat: Frank Wrathall looks forward to the final meeting of the 2012 BTCC season

By Frank Wrathall / MJP Media | 16 October 2012

Myself and the Dynojet Racing team will bring our BTCC season to a close at Brands Hatch this weekend, hopeful of ending the year on a high note.

I am going into battle looking to re-establish myself in the top 10 overall in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship and to maintain my superb qualifying record.

I endured a frustrating weekend at Silverstone earlier this month. Though quick again in qualifying, my Toyota Avensis was unable to stay on terms with its rivals on the power-sapping long straights of the Silverstone National circuit.

The Brands Hatch GP track layout should suit the Toyota, I believe. I don't think the speed differential will make as much difference at Brands and we have one or two ideas up our sleeves that we hope will help. The Grand Prix circuit at Brands Hatch is absolutely mega - definitely one of the best to drive because of all the fast, flowing corners which in my opinion are the nicest to drive.

I qualified third on the grid last time - my fifth time in the top five from nine meetings - and go into Brands looking to cement my position as one of the BTCC's top three qualifiers of the season. I have twice won the Independents race trophy in 2012 thanks to my podium finishes at Thruxton and Snetterton and head to Brands Hatch 12th overall in the driver title race, eighth among the independents.

The Grand Prix circuit will be a big challenge, not least because there has been no opportunity to test on it. Though we raced at Brands in April, that was on the short Indy circuit. It's going to be tough because I have not driven the full circuit for a year. But it's the same for everyone. I would like to thank everyone involved with the team and have had some great times this season. I will do an end of season report (you know, like you used to get at school?) next week and look forward to seeing you all this weekend.

Lots of love
