A fantastic venue for spectators thanks to its vast viewing areas, Thruxton in Hampshire is probably the most fearsome circuit on the BTCC calendar with an average lap speed well in excess of 100mph and top speeds of around 140mph. Its layout is effectively a never-ending, occasionally tightening right-hand loop split by two chicanes and boasts extraordinarily high speeds. It is such a fast and demanding circuit that Dunlop brings a special one-off tyre just for this event to help withstand the extra cornering loads. Thruxton is the one circuit on the calendar where the teams are not required to run with soft option tyres.

Last time out at Donington Park, the victory honours were shared by 3 different drivers, once again demonstrating the close racing we have come to expect from Britain's premier motorsport series. The first two races were dominated by the Team BMR Volkswagen CCs with former BTCC champion Jason Plato winning the first race and team-mate and defending BTCC champion Colin Turkington winning the second. Following a thrilling third race, former BTCC champion Matt Neal took the chequered flag in is Honda Yuasa Racing Civic Type R.

Another driver to have a successful outing at Donington Park was Aiden Moffat in the Laser Tools Racing Mercedes Benz A-Class who secured his first BTCC podium finish in race three, finishing 5th overall and taking the Independents win ahead of the likes of Jason Plato and Colin Turkington. Perhaps Thruxton could provide the young Scot with the first outright podium finish of his BTCC career? He will certainly have some strong competition, particularly from the Hondas which always go well at this fast circuit.

Heading to Thruxton, the championship standings could hardly be much closer with Matt Neal at the top of the table on 75 points and Colin Turkington 2nd on 73. Gordon Shedden is currently 3rd in the standings for Honda Yuasa Racing on 67 points with Andrew Jordan 4th on 63 for MG 888 Racing. Jason Plato is not far behind on 58 points, completing an all-champions top 5. With Jack Goff 6th on 54 points and Rob Collard and Adam Morgan tied on 53, the 2015 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship is shaping up nicely!
