Although Honda Yuasa Racing Team's Gordon Shedden earned enough points in the previous race to secure the 2012 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, there was still plenty of action to enjoy at Brands Hatch in the last race of the season. Shedden's team-mate Matt Neal and MG KX Momentum Racing's Jason Plato were still fighting for the championship runner-up position and the Independents Trophy was still to be decided.

Thanks to the reverse grid system, Mat Jackson started race 3 from pole position in his Redstone Racing Ford Focus alongside the Dynojet Toyota Avensis of Frank Wrathall. Jason Plato and Pirtek Racing's Andrew Jordan started on the 2nd row of the grid with Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden on row 3.

As with the previous 2 races, race 3 took place in the rain. Andrew Jordan got a poor start and lost several places off the line. Meanwhile, Frank Wrathall was pushing Mat Jackson hard for the lead with Plato in 3rd place being chased by Matt Neal. Plato lost 3rd place to Neal on lap 3 and was soon under pressure from Gordon Shedden.

Mat Jackson slowed down on lap 4 which allowed Frank Wrathall to take the lead ahead of Matt Neal as Jason Plato lost further places to Gordon Shedden and Andrew Jordan. Plato was passed by Dave Newsham on lap 6 and Rob Austin on lap 8 as his MG6 struggled in the increasingly wet conditions. As the race progressed, Wrathall extended a significant lead over the Honda Yuasa Racing duo.

At the chequered flag it was a maiden BTCC victory for Frank Wrathall in the Dynojet Toyota Avensis with team-mates Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden completing the podium positions. Andrew Jordan finished 4th with Aron Smith 5th and Dave Newsham 6th.

After another fantastic season of the BTCC action it was Gordon Shedden who lifted the 2012 Drivers Championship trophy with the Manufacturers/Constructors Championship trophy going to Honda/Dynamics and the Teams Championship trophy going to Honda Yuasa Racing Team. Andrew Jordan took the Independents Trophy with Pirtek Racing taking the Independents Team Trophy. The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship returns next year with the opening rounds at Brands Hatch on 30th/31st March 2013.
