The Inside Track with Silverline Subaru BMR Racing: Fun in the sun at Oulton Park

By Team BMR / MJP Media | 4 June 2016

Massive improvements and a first ever Subaru BTCC pole position at Oulton Park!

We arrived at Oulton Park earlier this week with high hopes that we were making real progress with the cars ahead of this weekend's Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

We decided to run a variety of setups after our reliability test proved successful and we had mixed results over the course of the two free practice sessions. In the first of those sessions we felt that the cars were a bit loose and the drivers felt that they weren't quite there. Although it wasn't bad, the guys were saying that it wasn't quite right and so we decided to do some different things for the second session.

The second free practice session saw a change in the feedback. The guys found a bit of setup that they felt happy with and for the first time Jason admitted that he was finally happier with the car and felt a 'real connection' with the setup and the car. In fact, in a huge moment at Lodge, he was able to recover the car, albeit with difficulty.

After the session Jason admitted that if he had the FP1 setup on the car, he would have been off in a big way however he was lucky to correct a bucking bronco of a car. Mind you, better to have a car you can control than one you can't - real progress indeed. Add to that we were starting to show some great speed improvements and the world looked fantastic. Overall in FP2 we were 7th and 8th with Jason and Colin.

On to qualifying and a piece of BTCC history. Subaru's first ever pole position courtesy of Colin with Jason not far behind with 6th on the grid for tomorrow's first race. What can we say? Well, in the words of Colin: "The car was awesome and all of the hard work seems to have come together today. We have all shared a lot of data and proven that we are a real team. This pole position reflects the hard work that every single member of the team has put in. I am sure that all of the boys will sleep well tonight, but now we have to concentrate on the racing tomorrow. We won't rest on our laurels as we are still right at the start of the project, but this is a good way to show we mean business!"

Tomorrow sees us taking the next step in our journey and we would love you to come along to Oulton Park and see how we get on.

Cheers for now!
